June Wrap Up

What a month!

First I must say CONGRATULATIONS to the following FIRST time Ironman finishers:

Amy NeSmith & David Blackwood. YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!!!!!!!

These Florida flatlanders successfully crossed the finish line at chilly an hilly Ironman Coeur d' Alene yesterday. There is nothing like a first time Ironman finish so hopefully I can con them into a race report that I can post!

I must also congratulate Brian NeSmith of www.FrontRunningSports.com (check them out!!) for his 2nd Ironman finish. It was a tough day for him but he got r done and was sweet enough not to push his wife Amy out of the way to get to the finish line first ;-) Also , A BIG way to go to Dawn Decaminada for a new Ironman PR...great job girl!!!!!

Also racing this past weekend was "new to the Junior Elite ranks", Shayne Murphy. Shayne was the only athlete from the Florida region to make his way out to the flooded state of Iowa to race the Hy-vee Junior Elite Cup. This race was part of a huge race weekend that included the HyVee World Cup triathlon which had the final selections to our US Olympic team ( Sarah Haskins Kortuem & Hunter Kemper). This was Shayne's first "real" ITU racing experience and though it did not turn out as well as we hoped, he had a great experience and is fired up to train hard for Junior Nationals. Very proud of your effort Shayne!

Other racing news for the month include:

Age group wins  at the 6-13-08 Publix Family Fitness Weekend St. Leo Triathlon

Karen Alderman (who is becoming quite the lil speed demon)
Taylor Scott ( the 14 yr old who just keeps getting faster)

Also, Suzanne Brown had a great day at the Mooseman 1/2 Irondistance.....next month IM USA!!!!.

On 6-1-08, at the Maderia Beach Triathlon, ITU Pro Kevin Collington on his new Orbea Ordu ( thanks Florida Bicycle Sports ) crushed the field to cruise to an overall win.
Instead of wearing the coach cap, I opted to put on my race cap for Maderia Beach. This went a little bit better than my last race but I am still struggling with motivation to push myself beyond the comfort of a steady state aerobic effort. Can't complain too much as results wise it was ok but hopefully I can find a some mojo for the next race Morton Plant Triathlon and have a better day!

Thats the news for June...be sure to check out my latest article on Ironman.com on Healthy Fats!

Train Smart & Eat Well!!

What a fantastic race coverage at Hyvee under last minute conditions. Online coverage was great except for no audio.

Congrats to Sarah Haskins & Hunter Kemper who secured the remaining spots on the US Olympic team.
